Burning rubber in the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
This week the Cadillac communications crew invited a group of media out to General Motors' Milford Proving Ground for a special preview of the new second-generation Cadillac CTS-V. We first saw the CTS-V last January at the Detroit Auto Show and more information has been dribbling in the intervening time period. A few weeks back, GM's resident speed demon engineer John Heinricy took a production spec CTS-V to an all-time lap record of 7:59.32 for a production sedan at the Nürburgring, and this week Cadillac revealed the official SAE certified power numbers for the super-Caddie at 556 horsepower and 551 pound-feet of torque.
When we got to Milford our handlers took us out to a tent by the Lutz-ring test track where we found three CTS-Vs and various displays of the hardware contained within. Heinricy was on hand as well to tell the tale of the "fast lap" last month. For those who may not have been paying sufficient attention over the past 6 months, the CTS-V is GM's answer to all those German uber-sedans like the Mercedes E63 AMG, Audi RS4 and RS6 and, of course, the one that started the madness, the BMW M5. Read on after the jump to learn more about what makes this Caddie so special and what it was like to go for a ride.
BONUS: Four videos after the jump, including burn-out runs from both inside and outside the new 2009 Cadillac... [Read More]

2009 Cadillac CTS-V Specs Made Official, Gets 556 HP |
|
Jun 09, 2008 - 2:18 PM - by dascrow

We knew the new super-spec 2009 Cadillac CTS-V would be getting some impressive output numbers, and today the official figures are out — 556 HP at 6,100 RPM and 551 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 RPM. With those bitchin' numbers, the CTS-V will be doing 0-60 MPH in a lightning fast 3.9 seconds, with a standing quarter mile coming in at 12 seconds flat. Sure, but how fast will she go? What about 175 MPH with the six-speed auto and 191 MPH with the manual transmission? Okay, we're a little light-headed at the moment; obviously the CTS-V is warping the space around our brains.

New 2008 CTS-V Information ***UNMASKED*** |
|

Yes, America’s muscle car is back. Cadillac’s red-hot CTS-V is undergoing final testing before the 500bhp monster is unleashed at the Detroit motor show early next year, ready for a European debut this time next year. There’s no word on pricing, but given Cadillac’s desperate need to boost its minuscule European sales base, expect the V to cost around £38,000 – enough to temp some buyers away from its AMG, Motorsport and RS rivals.
Despite the wild rumours circulating about the CTS-V’s proposed powerplant – with extravagant claims of an 800bhp supercharged V8 topping the wish list – CAR’s sources say that the Cadillac will be powered by the formidable 7.0-litre smallblock all-alloy V8 found under the Corvette Z06’s bonnet. Look closely past this mule’s harlequin disguise and you’ll see the bold power bulges needed to house the V8 engine and still meet stringent pedestrian impact regulations.
While lesser CTS models pack direct injection V6 units, only a rumbling V8 would do for the performance flagship. And the LS7 powerplant is one hell of an engine. The dry-sumped bent eight is hand-finished, features titanium con-rods, a forged steel crankshaft and develops 512bhp at 6300rpm and a mighty 470lb ft at 4800rpm, making it GM’s most powerful passenger car engine and largest-displacement... Cadillac will not race again next year |
|
Oct 20, 2007 - 3:23 PM - by dascrow

As the new 2008 Cadillac CTS hits the streets and the monster new CTS-V is still somewhere on the horizon, GM has decided to terminate the Cadillac Racing program with the close of the 2007 season. The current racing CTS-V will make its swan song appearance this weekend as the Speed World Challenge takes to the track at Laguna Seca. 2005 champion Andy Pilgrim is sitting in third place right now behind teammate Lawson Aschenbach in second and leader Randy Pobst. The team only needs to score one point to grab the manufacturer's title. The racing program may be revived after the second generation CTS-V launches later in 2008.

"The Cadillac XLR-V, which has been available in Cadillac showrooms across Europe since April, is a further addition to the luxury nameplate’s growing family of high-performance V-Series vehicles. The XLR-V combines luxury with power, performance, personal amenities and style and is equipped with the Northstar V-8 supercharged engine, producing 331 kW (450 hp). Combined with a rear-mounted, six-speed automatic transmission, the XLR-V’s supercharged engine helps deliver 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 4.7 seconds..."

2009 Cadillac CTS-V will have 600HP Corvette Blue Devil engine!

Posted Jun 4th 2007 2:45PM by John Neff
Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedans/Saloons, Cadillac, GM
The new issue of Motor Trend arrived in the mail and our eyes were instantly attracted to this story that just went live on motortrend.com. The MT crew has learned that the supercharged V8 slated for use in the next-gen Cadillac CTS-V will be none other than a "detuned" version of the 7.0L LS7 powerplant debuting in the Corvette Blue Devil, or rather, Corvette Z07. The MT editors expect the version used in the CTS-V to produce about 600 horsepower, or around 100 horses short of what the Z07 will produce.
Pick any possible competitor for the next CTS-V and it's obvious that all will come up short to Caddy's new mega muscle sedan. The BMW M3 and Audi RS4 both produce only 420 horsepower, while the horsepower happy AMG team stuffed only 503 in the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. Even the BMW M5, which is larger than the CTS, will come up short with an upcoming horsepower bump into the low-500 horsepower range. In short, the CTS-V will offer the same amount of horsepower as the 2008 Dodge Viper, which is pure insanity. GM's got stones, folks, and Cadillac is clearly the prime beneficiary of its newfound fortitude.
Much thanks to Motor Trend editor-in-chief Angus... [Read More]

Well this isn't V news, but maybe there will be some next gen CTS-V info when this happens in January!
Quote:
Cadillac To Premiere All-New 2008 CTS In January
DETROIT, Mich. - It is the subject of online discussions, rumors and spy photographers. It is the successor to an award-winning and popular luxury car. And it's coming in January. Cadillac confirms that the all-new 2008 CTS will make its world premiere in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
"Cadillac has engineered an historic renaissance, with a completely new product portfolio, driven in large part by the original CTS," said general manager Jim Taylor. "Success can drive conservatism, but not for Cadillac. The next chapter, beginning in January, promises to be even more dramatic."
The debut of the redesigned 2008 CTS in the marketplace is scheduled for late-summer of 2007 in the U.S., with worldwide exports to follow in the fall. As this new chapter prepares to open, the current CTS model continues to be an automotive success story.
"CTS has built a strong record of success on many levels," Taylor said. "It has exceeded our goals for sales volume, set new | ... [Read More]
